In spite of my server's request for a slice of Prime Rib cooked "Blue Red Rare," (reeely rare), it was "Medium." When she inquired, the chef took slice, toward the end, from a new roast. It was tough as nails. In addition, each time I come for a meal, the woman who clears the plates "continuously" wants to whisk my plates away before I have finished my meal! It's infuriating as a diner who has come for a "relaxing" dinner. Btw, my server was excellent! I gave her a large tip. But I will not return to this restaurant again.

Decent food, good service. live music. Prices arent bad. SPinach salad with warm bacon dressing is this bomb. Good neighborhood spot, especially for the older folks at night.

We have been here more times than i can count. The menu is diverse and the food is great. Tonight the Shrimp Allison and the snapper soup and then the veal whitemarsh... My mouth is watering in anticipation for the main course. The bartenders are exceptional as well.

I have to admit I read the reviews on Yelp before trying this place. Everyone pretty much has it spot on... definitely the local hang out for every senior citizen in Lafayette Hill. I got the filet & Cajun shrimp. I asked for medium cooked and it was more like medium-well which was a little disappointing. I got mashed potatoes as a side & it came with a veggie as well. The mashed were good but the veggie was brussel sprouts. I'm not a huge fan of these & I thought it was a little strange that they served that particular vegetable with everyone's meal that night. We didn't get apps or dessert but it came with warm bread & a nice ceasar salad. They do give you a generous glass of wine. Thumbs up there.

This is one of our favorite local restaurant for steak and seafood. The live entertainment is a added bonus(i love to people watch). It's a bit of a older crowd (60+) but that doesn't bother us! I've been here a ton over the years and i've never been disappointed! My husband and I really like the shrimp on horseback and the stuffed mushrooms to start. The spinach salad is one of my favorite things EVER! I always get the same entree, the filet w/ mushrooms which is always delish. The wait staff is always nice and you can't beat the price for all the food.

It's unlikely that anybody under the age of 50 will appreciate Whitemarsh Valley Inn. It's geared toward white-haired diners (okay, I'm guilty!) and it's achieved great success in that niche. (Barren Hill Tavern or Bar Lucca are more likely to please a younger crowd.) The food at WVI is very good and it's consistent. Over the course of decades, I've eaten most things on the menu. My only complaint was spaghetti with an EXTREMELY garlicky tomato sauce. Otherwise, the food is tasty, well presented, fairly priced and efficiently served. My lunch favorites include the hot turkey sandwich or the chicken salad with fried oysters or the charred sirloin burger or their bacon-wrapped scallops. These items are consistently excellent in taste and portion. The dinner menu offers very good prime rib, excellent Crab Imperial and excellent nightly dinner specials. The restaurant does a perfect job of cooking vegetables....for those who care about such a thing.

Scads of senior citizens call Lafayette Hill their home and now I know where they all eat, the Whitemarsh Valley Inn. I didn't notice it back in the day (when my elderly grandparents brought me here for dinner) but on a recent visit with my special lady friend it became evident that you can only see the Inn once you make it over the hill. Fortunately the smell of good eats covers the mothball odor nicely. Old school crowd equals old school food; veal, seafood, and steak, steak, steak. Classic appetizers like shrimp cocktail, shrimp on horseback (a.k.a. wrapped in bacon), and oysters on the half shell comprise the starter menu; enjoy these with your first of many inexpensive glasses of wine (good size list of bottles too). While the menu boasts a wide variety of entrees from surf and turf to ribs, I usually go with the steak; the other stuff is all good but I rarely eat steak and I know they'll do it right. Atmosphere is nice and dim with paintings of old ships along the walls, yellowed with age and decades of smoking patrons (smoke-free now thanks to the ban). When all's said and done it's not the lightest on your wallet but well worth it on a special occasion or if you commonly drop a little over a c-note on a meal for two.

One of the best kept secrets around! Everything is excellent from the crab stuffed salmon to the fillet mignon. Get their mussels in either a white or red sauce for an appetizer and order plenty of bread as the sauce is to die for. Shrimp Scampi is good and garlicky as it should be. Staff is great too. We go there every chance we get. (and the drinks are good sized, not measured shots like so many "Philadelphia" establishments).

I have to say I have been here for lunch and I have been here for dinner - lunch is a little bit better. I went here for dinner on a Saturday night and I felt like I just walked into the senior citizens home - that is not always a bad thing. However, they had a live piano player, who was singing such songs as "On the Way to Cape May", etc., - it made me want to dig my eyes out with my spoon. I ordered the fillet - well done and it came out rare-medium rare. I don't send things back - that's just me. On the other hand, my husband really enjoyed his dinner of chicken florentine. The one pet peeve I do have at restaurants is that both my husband and I only drink coke - no alcohol - and this restaurant actually charges per coke. Usually restaurants - whether they are high end or a diner, will refill sodas for free. That just rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, c'mon....$2.00 per soda....are you serious? I will not be returning to this establishment - even if my husband liked his food.
